Books Not Bullets!!!

July 12th was Malala's 18th Birthday!!!

Malala is an extraordinary girl who I admire tremendously. I recently listened to her book I am Malala and can not help but be in awe on how courageous she is.

What is even more admiring and absolutely wonderful is that on her 18th birthday, Malala opened the Malala Yousafzai All-Girls School in Lebanon.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai (L) cuts a ribbon near Noura Jumblatt (R), founder of the NGO Kayany Foundation, at a school for Syrian refugee girls, built by the foundation, in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley July 12, 2015. Yousafzai celebrated her 18th birthday in Lebanon on Sunday by opening the school and called on world leaders to invest in "books not bullets." The Malala Fund, a non-profit organisation that supports local education projects, paid for the school. Photo by Jamal Saidi/Reuters

This school will serve about 200 Syrian girls who live in refugee camps along the Lebanese border. You can watch a clip of the opening:

Along with opening this school, Malala has the #booksnotbullets campaign going on. Malala is asking world leaders to take action by ending the vast spending on war and instead invest in education. According to the Books Not Bullets website people should...

Post a photo of yourself holding up your favorite book and share why YOU choose #BooksNotBullets - and tell world leaders to fund the real weapon for change, education. We'll use them on Malala Day to show world leaders that the public wants global education to be a top priority.

So I too am participating in this campaign since I highly believe that education is the greatest weapon on earth. You can take a person's freedom away but you cannot take their knowledge.

I chose the book, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It is one of my top favorites. This book has taught me the strength of women's friendships.

How about you? Do you stand with Malala?
